Canvas treats all graded items as Assignments eg Discussions Quizzes etc. Any figure will work.

How to assign percentages to grades in canvas. For example you may want Homework to count for 40 of a students grade 40 for Papers and 20 for Tests. Once assignments are organized into groups you can choose what weight to assign that group. You can create assignment groups and assign weights for each assignment group to calculate the final grade out of a total of 100.
Click the Add Assignment Group button at the top of the Assignment pane. By default there is a single assignment group which contains all assignments. Canvas does not have an adjusted grades column.
These percentages can be changed at any time. Click the 3-vertical dots icon near the top of the page. Your calculated grade is always available.
To Assign Weights to Assignment Groups in Canvas. Enter the percentage weights for each of the different Assignment Groups you created. To display the Total Grade as a letter Grade go to Settings Make sure the Course Details page is displayed Checkmark Enable course grading scheme.
Click the checkbox to indicate that you want to weight final grade based on assignment groups. To ensure students receive a specific percentage for an assignment or final grade enter the assignment score or grade override as a percentage. Set the weight for one group at 0 and weight another group at 100.
The following strategies offer methods to give extra. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other assignment groups identified earlier. Here is how to do it.
Create at least two assignment groups and check the option to weight the final grade by assignment group. Set the points and set it to percentage if you wish and click on the submission type No Submission. Enter the percentage weights for each assignment group youve created.
Create an assignment group. Entering a B for an assignment would assign a percentage of 89 but entering a B for a final grade override would assign a percentage of 86. Type Assignments in the Group Name box type 20 in the of total grade box and click the Save button at the bottom of the window.
Enter the name of the assignment group in the Group Name box. Add your assignment I prefer to do this from the module view 2. On the Assignments page click the 3 dots in the upper right-hand corner of the page and click Assignment Groups.
Create a new assignment in this example called Midterm Participation Grade. You can leave the box empty andor change the number later. The weights for all assignment groups must add up to a total of 100 unless you are offering extra credit opportunities in which case your weights may total 200.
Place all of your standard assignments in the group that is weighted at 0. Enter the percentage of the total grade in the of total grade box. To calculate individual student final grades add up the total points earned on each graded item and divide that sum by the sum of the total maximum points assigned to each graded item.
The percentage weights you specify here will determine how Canvas calculates the final grade for your course. Click Assignments in the course navigation menu. Check the box next to Weight final grades based on assignment groups Specify the percentage for each Assignment Group.
By default Canvas displays the Total grade in the instructors gradebook and in the individual students grade view as a percentage.
